Macmillan Coffee Morning

Our Volunteers held a Macmillan Coffee Morning in the form of a traditional old fashioned tea room with tablecloths, china, napkins (all this and waitress service too!), on Wednesday 15th of September. Sandwiches, cakes and beverages were available at Great Eccleston Village Centre, donated by generous members of our community to help us raise funds which will make such a difference to people affected by cancer.

Needless to say the Macmillan Coffee Morning was a great success raising £213 for their funds. Special thanks to Sheenagh, Dot and Irene for delicious cakes and sandwiches, and their work in the kitchen. Also Tass, Eileen, Jill for waitressing and selling raffle tickets, (all the raffle prizes have been claimed).

New Courses

For those wanting to update their skills on the computer, Lancashire County Council Adult College are running Five new courses over the next few months at Great Eccleston Village Centre.
Beginners Plus:
Starts Tuesday 21 September 9:30am –11:30am 8 Weeks Fee £70.40*
EBay– Buy and Sell:
Starts Thursday 4th November 12:30 pm- 2:30pam 3 Weeks Fee £26.40*
Internet & Email—Keep in touch with the Grandchildren:
Starts Thursday 30th September 9:30am—12:30pm 2 weeks Fee £17.60*
Internet –Protect your computer from Spam and Viruses:
Starts Thursday 14th October 9.30am - 11.30am 2 Weeks Fee £17.60*
Social Networking—Facebook, My Space, Twitter and Blogs.
Starts Thursday 25th November 9.3am.— 11.30am 3 Weeks £26.40*

* assisted fee of £5 available subject to eligibility

Tea Dance: We have had some enquiries about the possibility of holding a tea dance with some professional ballroom instruction if needed and we would like to gauge community interest. It will probably take place on Thursday afternoons and we need to have an idea of the possible uptake for this activity so please register your interest at reception or call: Tel: 01995 672992

Help Direct at the Village Centre

If you live in the Gt. Eccleston area your Help Direct local base will be at the Village Centre on Wednesday mornings (in the Lounge) between 9:30am-12noon.

Help Direct is a new service being developed for all adults in Lancashire. Help Direct will offer practical support, guidance and information you need to get the most out of life.

Help Direct is working with a large number of local organisations and community groups to provide and develop support for you to get the most out of life in the following areas:

* Health and fitness
* Home and Garden
* Feeling safe in your home and community
* Learning and leisure
* Managing finances
* Mobility and transport
* Community groups and involvement
* Getting the right help and support
* Relationships and families
* Employment, volunteering and training

Accessing Help Direct

You will be able to access Help Direct across Lancashire. All areas will have a local base where you can walk in and talk to someone.

You will also be able to access Help Direct in all sorts of different local places. Look out for the Help Direct sign at: one stop shops, libraries, community centres, doctor's surgeries, community group organisation offices, and lots of other places where you live.

In some situations a member of the Help Direct team could come and visit you at home.

Self-Run Workshop

Do you have any skills you would like to pass on? The Centre is seeking to attract potential tutors, educationalists, freelance teachers, etcetera, in other words, people with hobbies, or skills in languages, crafts, literacy, numeracy, technology, astronomy, art, quilting, embroidery, needlework or whatever, with a potential to run a workshop or group or class. If this is YOU then the opportunity to do just that is here waiting for you.
